2019 The Australian Institute of Physics AGM and Dinner
Event Information
Description
Colleagues, our AGM and Dinner is fast approaching. We are at the fantastic UWA's University Club again with fine dining and included drinks.
Our guest speaker is David G. Blair, Australian physicist and professor at the University of Western Australia and Director of the Australian International Gravitational Research Centre (AIGRC)
In the last 3 years, we have discovered more than 30 binary black hole collisions, a few black holes devouring neutron stars and three coalescences of neutron stars. We have measured the speed of gravity to one part in 10^15. Fifty WA physicists (members of our Centre of Excellence) are part of the discovery teams. This year a black hole was imaged by another large team. The Breakthrough Prize was awarded to both teams 2015 and 2019.
We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday the 14 November, at 6 pm for drinks and registration, 6:30 pm for the AGM, and 7 pm for dinner. There has been a lot of science news this year. So arrive early for pre-dinner drinks and let's discuss the exciting year we've had so far.
We'll all be there this evening, so be early to make the most of this opportunity.
Students are encouraged to become student members (it's free - see AIP site), and approach their supervisors to sponsor their dinner at the special $55 for Student (or unwaged) AIP members discount.
