Description

The 2019 National Dialogue on Bribery and Corruption—convened by the Global Compact Network Australia—will take place in Melbourne on Tuesday 12 November 2019.

The theme of this year's National Dialogue is the key relationship between corporate culture and bribery prevention. The Banking Royal Commission was a watershed moment for Australian business and regulatory communities, and its conclusions about the responsibility of corporate leadership to embed a positive corporate culture are highly relevant to anti-bribery compliance.

As with all compliance efforts, effective bribery prevention requires a corporate culture that empowers directors, officers, employees and business partners to ask the question not "Can I do it?" but “Should I do it?” and then to act on the answer with confidence.

To facilitate an understanding of how business can embed a corporate culture of bribery prevention from the boardroom down to frontline staff, the National Dialogue presents an opportunity to engage with key law enforcement, regulatory authorities and business leaders on corporate culture and its intersection with developments on the Federal Government’s agenda, including the introduction of deferred prosecution agreements and the corporate offense of failure to prevent bribery.

We will hear from the AFP, Attorney General’s Department, DPP, ASIC and business leaders throughout the day.

The full agenda can be found here.

The event will is held under Chatham House rule.

Launched in 2000, the mandate of the UN Global Compact is to guide and support the global business community in advancing UN goals and values through responsible corporate practices. With more than 11,000 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and more than 60 Local Networks, it is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world.

Locally, the Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) brings together signatories to the UN Global Compact, including more than 30 ASX 100 companies and other major corporates, non-profits and universities, to advance the private sector’s contribution to sustainable development through the universal framework provided by the UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles. We lead, enable and connect business and stakeholders to create a sustainable future by supporting businesses to act responsibly and helping them find opportunities to drive positive business outcomes.
