Workshop Description

The workshop will focus on how to write technical papers, review the structure of paper, and provide valuable tips on how to get your abstract accepted, the do’s and don’ts, the approval process, and areas of confidentiality that you should know to avoid publication/PR issues. Also, the workshop will provide tips on how to create effective presentation slides and good techniques for presenting the papers. This workshop will also focus on what it takes to get your paper peer-reviewed. Note also that these skills are easily transferable to writing and presenting effective reports at your job.

Professionals interested in presenting and writing papers for conference publications and professional Journals. This includes students, engineers, geoscientists and scientists.

Attendee of SPE-KSA training workshop will be awarded 0.4 CEU (continuing Education Units) for this ½-day workshop. We provide each attendee a certificate upon completion of the training workshop

Instructor

Dr. Sunil Kokal is a Principal Professional and a Focus Area Champion of Enhanced Oil Recovery in the Reservoir Engineering Technology team of EXPEC Advanced Research Center at Saudi. Since joining Aramco in 1993, he has been involved in applied research projects on enhanced/improved oil recovery, reservoir fluids, hydrocarbon phase behavior, crude oil emulsions, and production related challenges. Currently he is leading a group of scientists, engineers and technicians to develop a program for CO2 EOR and to conduct appropriate studies and field demonstration projects. He has written over 125 technical papers and has authored two chapters of the SPE Petroleum Engineering Handbook. He has been the Associate Editor for the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, and the SPE Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering Journal, and earlier served on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology. He has been a keynote speaker, helped organize several petroleum engineering related conferences and symposia, and taught courses on enhanced oil recovery, reservoir fluid properties and other related topics. He is a member of the SPE and is a registered professional engineer of Alberta (Canada). Dr. Kokal is the recipient of the several prestigious awards including the SPE IOR/EOR Pioneer award, Honorary Member, SPE DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal and SPE Regional Technical award for Reservoir Description & Dynamics. He also served as a SPE Distinguished Lecturer during 2007-2008. Dr. Kokal holds a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada and a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi.
