2018 Alumni Awards Gala Breakfast
The UON Alumni Awards celebrate the exceptional leadership and innovation of UON alumni who have inspired others and made a positive contribution to their local, national and international communities.
An Indigenous artist, rural doctor, electrical engineer, comedian, environmental activist and international tech entrepreneur are among the 27 outstanding finalists this year. You can read more about our alumni finalists here.
The Alumni Awards provide an invaluable opportunity for you to meet and mingle with our Award finalists. Join us for a special gala breakfast event, where you will be treated to a morning of delicious food, entertainment, networking and a showcase of creativity and innovation. INSPIRE sessions
Following the Awards ceremony, you will have the opportunity to connect directly with and hear from our Award finalists and recipients at the INSPIRE sessions & masterclasses.
10am – 11am – THE UON GREAT DEBATE – Using their wit, logic and laughs, our alumni will battle it out on the stage at the Inaugural UON Great Debate! Who will come out on top?
10am – 10:45am STEMMINISTS The number of women working and undertaking research in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine) industries at the University of Newcastle continues to grow. Our STEMMinists are blazing a trail in their fields – from clean and renewable energy to stroke research, to microbiology, food science and human nutrition. Panellists: Dr. Emma Beckett, Dr. Jessica Allen, Dr Lucy Murtha.
CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE – Our alumni have helped shaped our local community and landscape. Hear from recognised leaders in architecture and infrastructure including award-winning architect Bernard Collins whose work can be seen throughout Newcastle with landmark projects such as the University’s NeW Space and the Newcastle Memorial Walk.
11:00- 11:45am THE FIRSTS – As a leader in Indigenous education, a number of our alumni have gone on to become the first in their field. Be inspired by our Indigenous Alumni Award finalists and how they are bringing new to the world. Panellists: Dr. Kristopher Rallah-Baker, Professor Gail Garvey.
Innovation Expo
The Innovation Expo will be open all morning in The Great Hall, giving you the opportunity to meet and support the amazing work of our alumni.
