2017 Thursday Evening Short Courses (18:00-21:00)

This is a set course to provide beginners with a hands-on introduction to Japanese joinery. This course is also designed to get wider basics of general woodworking by joining through out the year. Experienced students are also welcome to get hands-on knowledge on Japanese tools or joinery.

As most Japanese joinery is made with hand tools, this course will focus on mastering the proper skills of hand tools.

*Discount: For attendance from your second year.

*There will be an additional field trip to look at timber resources (voluntary participation).

Term 3 & 4
Small Furniture Project

20 Jul – 14 Dec, 15 x 3hours session, 15 weeks

Mid Term Break (3 weeks x 2 break) Scheduled in mid July- mid Aug and Oct due to Hiroshi’s overseas project.

For serious beginners, intermediate, and serious Japanese tool lovers. Course will introduce a small furniture designing and making project. Students will go through all the process of designing and making furniture. Learn how to design, draw, pick timber, plan and complete the whole joinery process, then finish it. The first step in machine work will be to introduce how to dress timber to size, with assistance from the tutor.

Project you chose have to be in small scale to finish in time.
