Event description

ANDS, NeCTAR, QCIF, Intersect, VICNode, eRSA and Pawsey have joined forces to organize a monthly Tech Talk virtual and face-to-face meeting.

Topic: The Australian Science Clouds

Abstract: NeCTAR is partnering with National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) domain capabilities to establish three community focused cloud platforms, the Australian BioSciences Cloud, the Australian Marine Sciences Cloud and the Australian Ecosystems Science cloud. This aims to address the needs of a broad cohort of researchers across the three research domains by providing community focused cloud platforms that will extend, upgrade and integrate existing NeCTAR, RDS, BPA, TERN and IMOS infrastructure. Partnering with the NCRIS domain capabilities will improve the delivery of eResearch resources to support national research priorities and enable that research communities have improved access to shared data, tools, platforms and computing resources according to each community’s domain-specific needs.

This February’s talk event will have a representative from each cloud to introduce their science cloud project.

Chair: Kheeran Dharmawardena (Nectar Science Clouds Project coordinator)

  • Introduction to science clouds and Nectar science cloud projects (Michelle Barker, Nectar Deputy Director)

  • Australian Ecosystems Science Cloud (Siddeswara Guru, TERN Data Integration and Synthesis Manager)

  • Australian BioSciences Cloud (Andrew Lonie, VLSCI & EMBL Australia Bioinformatics Resource Director)

  • Australian Marine Sciences Cloud (Brendan Davey, TPAC Software Development Manager)

Who should come along?

The general purpose for this virtual plus face-to-face meeting is twofold:

  2. Enable a dialogue between developers and NCRIS facilities

This event is for anyone who wants to know more about tech aspects of data and NCRIS facilities:

  • developers
  • data scientists
  • researchers who are building data tools
  • data technologists
  • data librarians
