This weekly regular recreational group is for home-schooled kids who love creative writing and would like nothing more than to spend every day doing it!
The classes will help students to develop their skills and meet like-minded friends their own age. Young writers will find themselves engaging in lively discussions on everything from books, authors, genres, the wider literary world, and writing technique. 'What makes this book popular?' 'What would you do to change it to make it a flop?' 'What style of writing do you like best?' 'How do you create a lovable or creepy character and make them believable?'
The sessions, guided by an experienced and caring faciltator (who happens to be a published author herself), also focus on the workshopping of individual student works-in-progress, where applicable. Everyone is encouraged to engage in readings and friendly critiquing to help one another improve plotlines, dialogue and characters - and in doing this, the students gain confidence in their writing and improve their public speaking and performance skills.
The young writers are also visited by occasional special guest authors who provide unique workshops. They will participate in various writing games and exercises, be informed of competitions and publishing opportunities, and receive constructive personal feedback on their work from the tutor.
A highlight of this unique youth program is the publication of an annual KSP anthology that features work from all students - and everyone receives a copy at a special book launch party. Young writers are involved in the editing process and will help to choose a name for the anthology. There is nothing quite like seeing your name in print! Bring along your imagination, and a notebook and pen or pencil.
