Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, an annual celebration that signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair.

The Deakin University Diwali Festival is one of the highlights of the Deakin calendar. In 2017, it will be celebrated on Friday 20 October. Official celebrations will take place at the Geelong Waterfront Campus and will include special cultural performances, food and market stalls and will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display on the Geelong Waterfront.

5.30 pm-7 pm - Cultural performances in Costa Hall

7 pm-8.45 pm – Diwali festivities including music, Indian market stalls showcasing delicious food, jewellery, Sari's, henna tattoo, children's activities and more in the John Hay Courtyard, Level 2 Gallery and Waterfront Kitchen

8.45 pm - Fireworks display on the Geelong Waterfront
