200 Turbot St – Advanced Structural and Geotechnical Analysis on a Constrained Site
About this event
We invite you all to join the IStructE QLD Committee as we hear Rob West (WSP) and Jared Schweitzer (Douglas Partners) present a project share on the recently approved 200 Turbot Street Development. This development is located in a prime CBD location, but is constrained by three existing Queensland Rail tunnels that traverse the full length of the site. As part of the development approval, WSP worked closely with Douglas Partners and Mirvac to determine the expected impacts of the development on the existing tunnels and to confirm that the proposed works would not negatively affect QR operations throughout the life of the project, from demolition, construction and occupation.
Key elements of this included;
- Complex 3D staged geotechnical analysis to assess ground movements and tunnel stresses
- Structural engineering solutions to transfer loads across the tunnel
- Podium structural scheme to minimise impacts on the tunnels
- Unique tower column grid solution to minimise transfer loads on the tunnels below.
- Structural monitoring proposal and methodology
This presentation is for designers and architects who might be working on similar constrained sites and what lessons learnt could be applied to help unlock other constrained development sites in Brisbane.
This is an in person event and tickets numbers are strictly limited, register today to secure your spot.
If for some reason you register and are unable to attend please cancel your reservation to enable someone else to attend.
The Speakers
Robert West - Associate Director WSP
Robert is a 17 year experienced structural and civil engineer with broad experience across buildings, bridges, tunnels and infrastructure projects in Australia. Robert has a keen interest in the performance of structures in extreme events and the often complex interaction between structural mechanics, codes and achieving safe, practical and cost effective construction.
Jared Schweitzer - Associate Geotechnical Engineer Douglas Partners
Jared has been a geotechnical engineer with Douglas Partners since late 2010. His experience has included a large range of geotechnical investigations around Queensland with extensive construction site inspections.
Jared’s analytical experience includes geotechnical stability, soft soil settlement, and his interest in complex problems has driven his experience in soil-structure interaction including basement and retaining wall design and tunnel load analysis, on projects varying from industrial earthworks to large residential towers and deep basement excavations.
