Event description

Description

The zinc-air battery has the advantages of high theoretical energy density, environmental-friendliness, affordability, and safety. Particularly, electrically rechargeable zinc-air battery technologies are promising for bulk applications like electric vehicles, grid management, and portable electronic devices. Australia today has more than 20% of the world's known zinc resources and is the largest producer and exporter of zinc to the rest of the world. Zinc-air battery technologies may address important energy storage challenges our society is currently facing. The 1st Australian zinc-air battery symposium invites speakers from both industry and academic research intuitions to discuss recent research advances and exploring potential R&D pathways for improving these batteries to realise their application potentials. The symposium comprises of two sections: (1) a Warren Centre Energy Forum organised by The Warren Centre on the title of "Batteries Will Run The World" (9:30 am to 11:00 am), and (2) an academic research session dedicated to the latest research of zinc-air battery in Australia (11:00 am to 5 pm) hosted by The University of Sydney School of Chemical Engineering.

A broad range of topics related to the zinc-air battery will be discussed in the academic research session, including but not limited to:

  • Zinc metal electrodes
  • Oxygen electrocatalysts
  • Electrolytes for zinc-air batteries
  • Design and assembly of battery stacks
  • Applications of zinc-air batteries in different fields
  • Research and development activities in relevant battery systems
