Overview

‘Train the Trainer’ – Prevent Abuse of Older People through Education

This Train the Trainer workshop equips aged care organisations with the knowledge, confidence, and practical resources to support frontline staff to recognise, respond to, and prevent abuse of older people in line with current aged care reforms.

The workshop also includes up-to-date information on the new Aged Care Act, the Statement of Rights, the Code of Conduct, and the Aged Care Quality Standards, supporting providers to meet their regulatory, governance, and workforce obligations.

Participants will be supported to embed learning across their organisation, strengthening a culture of safety, dignity, and accountability.

What participants receive

Designated staff trainers will be provided with an Abuse Prevention Kit (online resources), containing all materials required to deliver training sessions to frontline staff and volunteers, including:

  • Presentation materials
  • Case studies and learning activities
  • Videos and discussion prompts
  • Practical tools aligned with adult learning principles

  • Understanding and defining abuse of older people
  • Current prevalence and emerging risks
  • Types of abuse and early warning indicators

Make it a whole day of learning

Also running on the same day is the “Responding to Elder Abuse” workshop, focused on zero tolerance of abuse, risk assessment, practical responses, privacy, and real-world case examples.

Attend both sessions for a full day of practical, applied learning for aged care providers.
