About this Event

Designed for medical, nursing and allied health professionals, the symposium and workshop is an annual event and this year will be held on Thursday 5 March.

This year, there are two workshops to choose from and both workshops occur on Friday 6 March following the symposium.

Workshop 1: Last days of life paediatric/neonatal toolkit SIM

Presenters: Sandy Coombs, Caleb Lapointe

There are two sessions for this workshop. Eight participants per session.

  • 9:00 am -10:30 am (registrations from 8.30 am)
  • 11:00 am -12:30 pm (registrations from 10.30 am)

The Children's Hospital at Westmead Kids Simulation Centre will facilitate this workshop.

The course is aimed at specialist, generalist medical and nursing staff who are interested in using simulation based learning to improve their knowledge and skills in caring for a dying child or neonate in an acute care setting (hospital/hospice).

This highly interactive practical ‘hands on’ workshop will teach participants to apply the Toolkit pathways in a clinical scenario of a paediatric patient at end-of-life and incorporate the following components of end of life care management:

  • Recognising dying and last days of life management planning
  • Medication management
  • Communication

Workshop 2: Palliative care: Total symptoms

Presenter: Dr Richard Hain

This workshop has only one session. There is a limit of 25 participants.

  • 9:00 am -10:30 am (registrations from 8.30am)

This workshop is designed for all medical, nursing and allied health professionals caring for children/young people in palliative care.
