Event description

Description

Workplace and community leaders, and health professionals are invited to find out more about pharmaceutical misuse.

In 2016, 477 people died in Victoria from overdosing on drugs, with pharmaceutical drugs taking more lives than any other:

  • pharmaceutical drugs - 372 deaths
  • illegal drugs - 257 deaths
  • alcohol - 118 deaths*

This event has been split into two 90 minute forums. Seats are limited and registrations are compulsory to secure your spot.

You only need to attend one forum. Please carefully select the forum most relevant to you.

10am - 11.30am

For Workplace and Community Leaders

This forum will address the impact pharmaceutical misuse can have in the workplace. This includes loss of productivity, increase in absenteeism, reduced morale, implications on company reputation and other impacts.

Attendees will:

  • find out how organisations can reduce their risk
  • learn about ways to support employees
  • receive a kit to take back to their workplace to share the learnings from the forum. The kit will include posters, booklets and videos.

1pm - 2.30pm

For Health Professionals: primary health networks and pharmacy professionals, GPs and other health specialists

This forum will address the safe use of pharmaceutical and prescription medication, the new SafeScript initiative and provide health professionals with additional tools to talk with their community about the risks associated with pharmaceutical drugs.

Attendees will:

  • be invited to join the discussion about their experience and thoughts on this growing problem
  • receive a kit to help them have conversations with patients and share the learnings from the forum. The kit will include posters, booklets and videos
  • provide input into what resources will be most beneficial to support their interactions with clients.
