Event description

Description

The 14th Latin American Film Festival in Australia gets finally under way in Adelaide on Friday 2 November!

You are invited to join us at 6.00 pm for a chat and nibbles before our official opening by the Vice President and Executive Dean of College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University, Prof. Vanessa Lemm and by Head of Mission for Embassy of El Salvador Mr. David Cruz, with the participation of Honorary Consul of El Salvador in Adelaide Mr. Aland Quintana and followed by opening film The Claim (El Salvador, 2016).

About The Claim:

Monsignor Oscar Arnulfo Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador, was assassinated in 1980 by death squads. Pope Francis, upon his arrival in 2013, initiated the process of his canonisation, a stormy one that had divided the ecclesiastical institutions. The importance of Romero transcends that of El Salvador. In his honour, United Nations celebrates every 24th of March as the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims.

About the LAFF 2018:

Over the next two weeks, the festival will present a selection  of 14 films from all over Latin America, including international award winning pieces and featuring some of the most exciting and creative productions to reach the big screen in recent years.

Every weeknight until 16 November, a film will be shown at 6.30 pm in one of the rooms at Flinders on Victoria Square. Doors will open at 6.15 pm for a prompt start. Entry to all screenings is free of charge and all films are subtitled in English.
