About this event

The Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Directorate invites you to complete Connecting with People (CwP) suicide mitigation and response training.

This full day of training will begin with an introduction to suicide awareness and the CwP approach and will be followed by Suicide Response 1 and Suicide Response 2. Each module is 2.5 hours in length. The CwP approach to suicide mitigation is delivered by accredited trainers in line with the Suicide Prevention Workforce Development and Training Plan for Tasmania, 2016-2020.

Suicide Response 1 covers safe assessment, triage, community support sector support and co-production of an immediate safety plan. At the end of the module participants will be able to use the clinical resources to enhance their assessment and safe triage of a suicidal individual. They will be able to use SAFETool and will have the skills to co-produce an immediate safety plan.

Suicide Response 2 covers how to develop a collaborative and transparent approach to mitigating suicide risk over a longer time period and how to increase a patient’s resilience to suicidal thoughts. At the end of the module participants will be able to create a comprehensive, person-centred bio-psychosocial suicide mitigation plan, collaboratively engage in a comprehensive social support mapping exercise and be able to help their patients develop a longer term comprehensive Safety Plan with strategies to increase their resilience to suicidal thoughts.
