Indigenous Elders from all around Victoria are invited to join with members of Monash University Council, plus staff and students, for a forum and lunch hosted by the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor. The forum allows Monash to update Elders on our research, programs, and work relating to Indigenous peoples and cultures.
The luncheon, hosted by the Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous), is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends, and foster new friendships. It strengthens the strong bonds between Monash and Victorian Indigenous communities.
After the morning tea at 10am, the forum would be held from 10:30am-11:30am, followed by the luncheon.
Highlights of Elders Day in previous years include an acoustic performance by Uncle Archie Roach, Uncle Herb Patten playing the gumleaf, performances by Kutcha Edwards, Benny Walker and Rheannan Port, tours of the Indigenous Garden on the Clayton campus, tours of the Briggs and Jackomos Halls of Residence, and an exhibition of Indigenous works from the Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) permanent collection.
This year, we will be hosting Indigenous singer/songwriter Benny Walker, during the luncheon, for his performance.
