Through a grant from the City of Sydney, 2RPH offers all its volunteers the opportunity to take part in a series of free online training sessions to be run by the Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO) during August and September 2020.

The training sessions will cover the use of the free audio editing software Audacity and GarageBand for home recording and editing radio programs. There will also be two advanced audio editing training sessions. The training is primarily intended for those who are or may be home recording programs for 2RPH, but are also available for any other volunteers interested in learning the use of these audio software packages together with your 2RPH colleagues.

The training will be delivered online through Zoom. The training will be done by the Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO). For most sessions the trainer will be Alan Mitchell, a Systems Engineer who is also currently a volunteer presenter at 1RPH in Canberra.

There will be four training sessions on program compilation and editing – three sessions using the Audacity software and one session using GarageBand.

There will be a further two training sessions on advanced editing techniques. Training sessions are offered at various times to hopefully offer a convenient time for as many people as possible. Each session will run for 3 ½ hours including a half-hour break. You can attend one or all three types of sessions if you wish: basic editing with Audacity, basic editing with GarageBand and Advanced Editing.

The training session will be:

1. Audio Editing with Audacity (Session one) Friday 28th August 10am-1:30pm

2. Audio Editing with Audacity (Session two) Saturday 5th September 12pm-3:30pm

3. Audio Editing with Audacity (Session three) Saturday 12th of September 12pm-3:30pm

4. Audio Editing with GarageBand- Saturday 19th September 12pm-3:30pm

5. Advanced Audio Editing + Mixing with Audacity (Session one) Friday 25th September 4pm-7:30pm

6. Advanced Audio Editing + Mixing with Audacity (Session two) Saturday 3rd October 10am-1:30pm

Before the training session you should download and install the relevant software:

- For AUDACITY go to https://www.audacityteam.org/download/

- For GARAGEBAND see https://garagebandonpc.com/ (for Windows),

For Mac GarageBand should already be installed on your computer, or go to https://www.apple.com/au/mac/garageband/

If you don’t already have Dropbox installed, please do so by downloading at https://www.dropbox.com/install

When you have registered for the training session(s), your name, email address and phone number will be given to the CMTO Trainer. Prior to the scheduled session you will receive a Zoom invitation and a Learner’s Reference Book from the CMTO.

These training sessions are mainly for Audacity and one session on GarageBand. Audacity is a free audio software program that can be used on all platforms, whilst GarageBand is a free program that comes as part of the Apple Mac platform.

Please note, however, that Audacity has now also been installed on all PC’s at the station.
