Event description
Marrickville Town Hall Tour and Talk with Wurlitzer Music Performance.

About this event

Two sessions of this 90 minute tour, talk and music performance.

Friday, 11 February at 11am and 1.30pm. SOLD OUT

Additional session added by popular demand at 9.30am.

Each session consists of three parts.

Part: 1. Secrets inside Marrickville's Town Hall.

With almost a century of high drama and low intrigue, this handsome classical building has seen monarchists and anarchists, passionate politicians and dancers, debutantes and dole-kitchens.

People travelled by foot, tram and bus every night of the year to meet each other and be entertained before the days of television and Facebook.

Mark Matheson, former editor with the Royal Australian Historical Society will lead the tour.

Part: 2. Wurlitzer theatre organ music performance.

Listen to expert volunteers John S. Batts and Neil Palmer from TOSA (Theatre Organ Society of Australia) as they demonstrate this unique outstanding musical instrument with performances from the time of the silent movies to current day.

They will also be taking requests.

The upkeep of this theatre organ is managed by TOSA (Theatre Organ Society of Australia) volunteers who give their time freely and donate funds when required.

Part 3: Guest speaker Victoria Johnston on the Winged Victory.

Inner West Council's Arts Project Manager will talk about the restoration and history of the Winged Victory sculpture, the centrepiece and integral part of the Marrickville Town Hall corner.
