Shel Banks has worked in infant feeding for more than 20 years and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.Shel combines her NHS role as a Baby Friendly Coordinator for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals with specialist clinical work supporting families with unsettled babies, faltering growth and infant feeding difficulties. She also teaches and provides professional education to health and maternity professionals.Alongside her NHS, clinical and teaching work, Shel is currently undertaking a PhD exploring how families with unsettled babies can be better supported within universal services. Her research brings together the evidence base, the experiences of families and professionals, and the practical realities of delivering care within health services.Shel has contributed to NICE guidance and national work on infant feeding, has co-authored Cochrane systematic reviews, and is the author of Why Formula Feeding Matters. Her particular interest is in those families whose babies don't fit neatly into a textbook diagnosis, and in how we can provide skilled, compassionate and evidence-informed support even when there isn't a simple answer.
