RTR 2026

Each September, the Port Authority honors those lost in the 1993 and 2001 World Trade Center attacks through Remembrance Through Renewal—a month of service where we give back to our communities and continue their legacy through volunteerism.

Organizer of RTR 2026
Month of Service is part of the Port Authority’s Remembrance Through Renewal (RTR) Program. It provides employees with the opportunity to remember and honor those lost on September 11, 2001 in addition to those lost on February 26, 1993 – including the lives of our Port Authority colleagues – by volunteering in service events throughout the Port District in the month of September. The Month of Service component of RTR allows us to strengthen surrounding communities and the bi-state region, while growing the bonds between our employees. This tradition began in 2008, when the agency recognized that employees wanted a way to pay tribute to those lost on 9/11 while affirming their commitment to public service. Staff reached out to several service organizations in New York and New Jersey, scheduling special one-day service events for employees around the anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Through this collaboration, RTR as a whole was born, and it has grown steadily ever since. Service projects are available in New York and New Jersey, with a special focus on organizations committed to rebuilding the region after September 11th.
