Debra Klomp Ching is an arts executive, curator, educator, and writer whose career spans more than twenty-five years of leadership across the commercial, nonprofit, and academic sectors. Internationally recognized for her expertise in contemporary photography, she has built a career at the intersection of artistic excellence, institutional leadership, and professional development.Since 2007, Debra has served as Director and Co-Founder of Klompching Gallery in New York, establishing the gallery as an influential platform for contemporary photography and photographic artists. Under her leadership, the gallery has presented exhibitions by emerging and established artists from around the world while placing works in significant museum and private collections. Her work has earned a reputation for discovering new voices, fostering meaningful relationships between artists and collectors, and contributing to the broader discourse surrounding photography.Alongside her gallery practice, Debra has held leadership positions in nonprofit arts organizations and public cultural agencies, including serving as Director of Pavilion in Leeds, United Kingdom, and previously as Photography and Digital Media Officer for Arts Council England. Throughout these roles, she has led organizational transformation, developed strategic plans, secured public and private funding, cultivated institutional partnerships, and guided multidisciplinary teams. Her leadership combines artistic vision with operational rigor, enabling organizations to grow sustainably while expanding their cultural impact.A dedicated educator, Debra has taught graduate students at the School of Visual Arts in New York since 2014 and has curated the annual Master of Professional Studies Digital Photography Thesis Exhibition since 2018. Through teaching, mentorship, and a widely attended series of professional development webinars, she has helped hundreds of emerging artists build sustainable creative careers.Debra is also a respected curator, juror, speaker, and writer. She has guest-curated exhibitions for leading institutions and festivals, including FotoFest, the Griffin Museum of Photography, and Flash Forward Festival, and has served on judging panels for international awards recognizing excellence in contemporary photography. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, and she is a frequent invited speaker at museums, universities, festivals, and conferences throughout North America and internationally.Throughout her career, Debra has been guided by a belief that cultural organizations thrive when artistic ambition is supported by thoughtful leadership, strategic planning, and meaningful community engagement. Whether working with artists, collectors, students, boards, or institutions, she is committed to creating opportunities that strengthen the field of photography while expanding access to meaningful artistic experiences.Debra holds a Master of Arts in Critical History and Theory of Photography from the University of Derby, a Postgraduate Diploma in New Media Management from Birkbeck, University of London, and a BA (Hons) in Photographic Studies from the University of Derby.
