We're a small group, dedicated to forming a Biosphere over the Victorian Volcanic Plain. Our group was incorporated in 2007 with a six-member committee.
Our aim is to have the Victorian Volcanic Plain declared a Biosphere under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere program.
The two major ecosystems in the Victorian Volcanic Plain are Native Grasslands and Grassy Woodlands. Both are critically endangered.
Many environmental groups, including Landcare and Friends groups and other organisations, are working to save these ecosystems. Such groups are scattered all over the Victorian Volcanic Plain but there are large areas not benefiting from these activities.
We would like to see the successes of these group repeated in other areas. We believe this has to happen if we are to halt the decline of the Victorian Volcanic Plain.
A successful biosphere would enable this to happen by endorsing existing activities and providing the framework for them to be repeated across the region.
