The CIJ researches, advocates, teaches and translates research into practical application - all with a focus on innovation to improve criminal and civil justice mechanisms, and legal service provision.

In doing so it identifies, evaluates and promotes innovative strategies emerging in Australia and internationally, contributing to public debate through publication of articles, reports and submissions, as well as through speaking at and hosting events.

The CIJ also collaborates with other agencies and organisations involved in delivering innovative justice programs, and in conducting research, policy development and evaluations.

For students, the CIJ provides placement and research opportunities, not only offering practical exposure to the practice and social context of the law, but equipping them to use their legal training to advocate for and achieve change.
