Who we are
The
West End Community Association (WECA) is a not-for-profit, non aligned,
incorporated association of residents and friends of Kurilpa (West End,
Hill End, Highgate Hill and South Brisbane).
Formed in 2004, WECA celebrates and promotes our values, events and people that make Kurilpa a vibrant and diverse community. The
Association is open to and welcomes residents - owners and renters
alike, community organisations and businesspeople to join with us in
our initiatives.
Transition Town Kurilpa
Transition Town Initiative for Kurilpa captures West
End, Highgate Hill, Hill End and South Brisbane. Anyone who lives
and/or works in the Kurilpa area is welcome to come and join us.
We aim to have a sustainable Kurilpa peninsular, one that supports local business (not flying
up Sydney companies on weekends to run West End “COMMUNITY” markets)
and having a sustainable number of residents in sustainable buildings
(not 25 000 residents where there are now 6000).
Transition Town Kurilpa are meeting every second Wednesday. See the Events page for our next meeting and other events we may be organising or just advertising.
We meet at 6 pm. at the back of Spiral
on Boundary St, West End. We generally share food at meetings,
preferable locally sourced, vegetarian and organic. Spiral has a Cob
Pizza oven, so please contribute pizza ingredients if you can.
Please also let us know if you’re coming and have read the primer.
We are currently discussing and starting the process of developing the Energy Descent Action Plan.
