ACT: The Art Of Poetry Workshop
Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM (EST)
Artists create a window on the world that writers can climb through.
Australian Poetry Ltd welcomes poets, writers and visual artists to participate in an afternoon of creative exchange between the verbal and visual, word and image, language and object.
This is a workshop for anyone interested in learning the art of ‘ekphrastic’ poetry—poetry inspired by visual art forms. We will draw inspiration from the art, artifacts, craft and design housed within two of the Australian Capital’s renowned cultural institutions—Craft ACT and Canberra Museum and Gallery.
The afternoon will consist of writing experiments focusing on how cultural objects give us a sense of place, and help shape our lives and imaginations.
The workshop will be run by Dr Sarah Rice who is a poet, visual artist, and Art Theory lecturer, with poetry published in Island, Southerly, Blackmail, fourW’s annual anthology, and the Australian Poetry Members’ Anthology. Her limited-edition, art-book of poetry Those Who Travel with prints by Patsy Payne, is on display in the permanent collection of the NGA.

There will also be a poetry reading evening at 5.30pm on Thursday 5 July, hosted by Craft ACT and CMAG, where a selection of the poetry created during the workshop will be read.
