Event Details

Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens at this special event at the High Court of Australia.

 

Guest speakers will include Dr Helen Watchirs OAM (ACT Human Rights and Discrimination Commissioner) and Canberra lawyer Nicholas Tebbey (ACT Young Lawyer of the Year 2009).

 

Themes covered will include:

  • Children and the law in Dickens' time
  • Crime in Dickens' novels
  • A Dickensian theory of law and those entrusted with its safekeeping

There will also be:

  • Readings and re-enactments from Dickens' works (presented by Ickle Pickle Productions)
  • A Dickens trivia quiz

 

Everyone welcome. Participants are invited to bring their favourite quote from a Dickens' novel or name of a Dickens' character to place in a display at the event.
