What’s involved?
Clean Space is a facilitation process that emerged out of David Grove's continued search for a way to facilitate clients to do the work they need to do with the least possible intervention from a facilitator.
Even less intrusive than Clean Language, Clean Space involves using the space around your client as your co-facilitator. Your client moves from place to place, pausing as they find a 'sweet spot' that holds some information for them. In this way, they create a network of connections between the many thoughts, feelings and ideas in their mind and body.
Exploring this spatial network is like travelling down the pathways of the mind. Hard as it is to describe, typically people are surprised at the new understanding which doing this gives them. Change happens organically as a result of the client's system becoming more aware of its own organization. It can be used with individuals, couples and groups.
On this 2-day course you'll learn how to facilitate this unusual and effective process. You'll have ample opportunities for personal development in the role of client, too. On the second afternoon, there'll be an opportunity to have your Clean Space facilitation skills assessed, and to gain a credit towards Clean Facilitator certification.
"Clean Space is a new way to utilize bottom-up modelling in human psychology." - James Lawley & Penny Tompkins, Clean Space: Modeling Human Perception through Emergence, 2003
We take a step-by-step approach, with lots of practice and experiences for you to learn from. And there’ll be plenty of time for your questions.
What participants say about Clean Space:
"I love Clean Space! I have facilitated several sessions and I really love it. I love the absolute integrity of it due to the fact that as the facilitator I usually have absolutely no idea of the client's outcome- how clean is that? And as a result I can concentrate on facilitating, noticing non verbals and being fully present to the client's process. I recently worked with someone who was going through a particularly difficult time. By facilitating a Clean Space session I was able to be present with the client, minding my own business beautifully! He came in looking 'down' and reported feeling quite hopeless, and throughout each step of the Clean Space process accessed many other resourceful states including, curiosity, deep thoughtfulness and "aha's!" While he shared some of the "aha's he was getting and I could see how much more animated and resourceful he appeared to be, I never did have any need to know what his outcome was, only that the session was very very meaningful and helpful to him. As a facilitator I am thrilled to be able to be facilitate a change, a healing, an "aha" - whatever it was- and know absolutely that by working cleanly, I can be only in service to the client and can not do 'harm' even with good intentions. This client was able to work deeply and sometimes with much emotion, without concern for what I might think about any of the content, because I didn't need to know it. I am grateful for this work." Bev Martin
"I was keen to experience Clean Space and I wasn't at all disappointed as my 'clean space landscape' quickly became psycho-active under Phil's expertly minimal guidance. The questions, which can seem illogical when taken out of context, make perfect sense when you are focusing on an issue which you care about. And it is tremendously valuing to have someone pay exquisite attention to what you say and how you say it." Jenny Heath
