The Roma St Community Drum Circle meets on the FIRST Thursday of the month on The Carriage Deck in Roma St Parklands.

To get there you can drive up from Roma Street and turn into Parklands Boulevard and then up the steep ramp, as you go up the ramp you will see the carriage deck above you, it juts over the road. Keep driving and you get to parking spots just past the snack shop. Alternatively parking is available in Albert Street, just walk down the stairs and you you find us.

The Carriage Deck is a roofed and sheltered area so don't let the prospect of rain keep you from attending. We meet from 7.30 PM to 10.00 PM sharp. Sometimes we socialise over a coffee after drumming/ dancing and you are welcome to join us for that also.

We are a friendly group without charges or fees and play mainly West African rhythms with a little pseudo Middle Eastern also. Dancers enjoy our rythums too.
People generally share what they know, so its different every time, it just depends on who shows up. If you play already - fabulous, if you dont - fabulous, we will show you how.
Mostly it is a jam fest, were people enjoy themselves.

If lessons are your thing, I can also point you to some excellent teachers. I can also point you to where you make or buy a drum or have a drum repaired or skinned.

We also participate in quarterly retreats on the first weekends of March, June, September and December in the Kenilworth State Forest. It is a family friendly event and the kids do enjoy themselves. Normal camping fees are payable to the State Govt and a small donation to cover the cost of firewood which is used by all. There is a communal meal at Saturday lunch and then drum and dance until you drop. We do have a lot of fun. Many arrive on Friday and remain until Monday and although Sunday nights are smaller, they can be just as much fun as the night before.

I will also send out information about other events/ workshops/ that are music/ drum or community related.

I hope to see you with us soon and I will introduce you into our friendly group. I will be the one talking and slappin' a djembe (that's a drum) although not at the same time.
