Event Details

The Brookes Oration was established by the Deakin Business School in 2006 to encourage thoughtful debate about the contribution of corporate Australia in the global community.

This year’s oration will be delivered by Paul Bassat, co-founder of Square Peg Capital and SEEK . Square Peg Capital is an investor of early stage and growth stage technology businesses in the Asia Pacific region. Paul is also a director of Wesfarmers Ltd and a commissioner of the Australian Football League (AFL). Along with being designated as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2009, Paul is a board member for several non for profit organisations including the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, and the P&S Bassat Foundations.

After co-founding SEEK in 1997, Paul served as CEO, then as Joint CEO, until 2011. In 13 years SEEK became one of Australia’s top 100 companies, boasting a market capitalisation of $2.5b, and is the world’s largest online employment businesses. Over the last ten years SEEK has always ranked highly as one of Australia’s best employers and has numerous markets around Australia, as well as in Asia, Latin and South America.
