Event Details

Workshop flyer

This two day workshop will introduce participants to the plant communities and flora of the Hunter Valley region and provide the skills and information required to positively identify a range of native plants.

We will use some of the most commonly encountered plant groups to introduce you to the best identification resources (printed, on‑line, and interactive). You will also learn how to access the experts through the identification services of the major herbaria.

Along the way we will de‑mystify identification ‘keys’, and introduce you to useful field characters to look for.

The workshop is relevant for all levels of experience from beginners through to those experienced in plant identification and wanting to refresh their skills, particularly in the use of botanical identification keys.

While targeting the flora of the Hunter Valley, the skills learnt are transferable to other regions of Australia.

Learning will be through a combination of theory presentations, practicals and field‑based activities.

Participants receive a complimentary hand lens and Botanical Field Guide (value $20 in total). Participant can also choose or purchase a copy of Name That Flower by Clarke and Lee for $34.95 (Available under Additional Items (optional) when completing your registration) (UPDATE: OUT OF STOCK).

10% discount for those also registering for the Seed Use for Native Vegetation Restoration workshop

Optionl Social Dinner:

There is an optional social dinner Monday 7th. This three course meal is at the workshop venue and is $30. The deadline for booking the meal is Monday 24th March. To book, please select the 'social dinner' under 'Additional Items (optional)' when completing your registration.
