In December's meeting, Alex Brice and Brett Adams will present on the topic "Bitcoin: how an idea seeded a digital revolution and just how far it might spread".
There are many misconceptions and half-truths surrounding Bitcoin’s function and exactly how it works. As with any new sector, there needs to be a new lexicon and set of terms to describe the goings-on, but many of the new terms that have cropped up have only served to obfuscate and make things more confusing.
In this presentation we aim to untangle the matter and make the subject easily understandable, even to the laymen. We have explored Bitcoin for ourselves, and witnessed, first-hand, many of the obstacles and triumphs of this nascent ‘currency’.
We hope to share with you our discoveries from the technical depths, and explain to you: how bitcoin works as a cryptosystem. We will also briefly touch on best practices for securing Bitcoin wallets, dissect exactly what makes a perfect -- or near-perfect -- decentralised cryptographic system – and finally, what extraordinary impacts this growing technology may have on the immediate years ahead.
