Description

A staggering one in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime—a pandemic of global proportions. Violence is not inevitable. It can be prevented. But it’s not as straightforward as eradicating a virus. There is no vaccine, medication or cure. And there is no one single reason for why it happens. But unlike an illness, however, perpetrators and even entire societies choose to commit violence—and can choose to stop.

Join Soroptimist International (Victoria) for breakfast in our national and united approach to end violence to women across Australia and to #orangetheworld as part of the United Nations 16 days of Activism Orange the World in our campaign across Australia with guest speaker 2015 Australian of the Year Rosie Batty to UNiTe to End Violence Against Women and other special guests.

Soroptimist International (Victoria) is pleased to join with and support Rosie Batty’s advocacy for the adoption of the “Five Step Road Map – Safety First in Family Law” that was launched by Rosie in May 2016.

This event is also a fundraiser with profits going to the Women’s Legal Service Victoria who assist women that experience domestic and family violence in Victoria. Each year the Women’s Legal Service Victoria empowers nearly 3000 disadvantaged women and their children to enhance their safety and build their independence. Through their education services they reach thousands more. The Women's Legal Service Victoria through education, representation and advocating for fair and just laws, is able to change women’s lives.

As this is an #orangetheworld event, we invite you to wear orange on the day which is the colour the United Nations have chosen to symbolise a brighter future for all.

If you are unable to make the event we invite you make a donation of $75 instead - just click the buy tickets link.
