Cattle Council Policy Director, Mark Harvey-Sutton, will provide an overview from the beef industry’s peak body, Cattle Council of Australia (CCA). Mark will outline the beef industry structure, the levy distribution and key priority areas for CCA.

Derek Schoen will present an overview from NSW Farmers.
10.10 am - From bleeding edge to leading edge: Making use of data, technology and automation on farm
Dr Cameron Clark, Senior Research Fellow, University of Sydney, will present on the use of technology for automation and the early detection to reduce animal health.
10.40am – Grazing Best Management Practice (BMP) - Setting the standard for environmental & ethical beef production
Grazing BMP Officer, Michael Taylor, will present the Grazing BMP as a delivery framework for production and natural resource management outcomes initiated and piloted in Queensland.

11.40am – MLA, Eating Quality R&D Program – getting it right along the supply chain
Dr Alex Ball, General Manager Livestock Productivity, will present an overview of MLA’s Eating Quality R&D, the MSA program and the impact that on-farm management has on eating quality.
12.10pm – Beef Market Outlook
MLA’s Market Information and NLRS Manager Ben Thomas will present on the current beef supply situation, following the huge increase in slaughter and production over the past 18 months. Ben will also discuss what the near completed Economic Partnership Agreement’s and Free Trade Agreement’s will mean for trade.
12.40pm – Tour of UNE Animal Science facilities & overview of beef cattle methane research

2.00pm - Who makes the money in the beef supply chain? Is vertical integration the answer?
Over the past two years, producers have experienced low prices for cattle while at the same time reading reports of record export meat prices, resulting in producers exploring vertically integrated supply chains. This presentation by Northern Cooperative Meat Company CEO, Simon Stahl, will offer a perspective on these vexing questions and a thought provoking view of what the future may look like.
