Night Talk: Fall of the Aztecs
Thursday, 29 January 2015 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM (AEDT)
Sydney, New South Wales
San Francisco, California, USA
London, United Kingdom
Chris Carter, archaeologist, from ANU
How were a small group of Spanish soldiers able to defeat the Aztec empire and colonise much of the New World? 'Guns, germs and steel’ (to quote Jared Diamond) certainly played a part in their demise, but archaeologist Chris Carter argues that Spanish culture was so different to their own that the Aztecs did not know how to respond.
