What is it?This is an opportunity to develop expertise and knowledge in establishing, managing and operating within the unique and challenging environment of evacuation centres. The training is developed based on international best practices and aligned with the Tasmanian Emergency Management Plan (TEMP 7.1).
Who is it for?This training is for anyone who may have a management or hands on role in an evacuation centre. It aims to develop a better understanding of the environment, operational practices and considerations.
We encourage organisations to send staff who may have a role in managing an evacuation centre, in managing your organisation’s involvement at a centre, or in a supervisory capacity for teams located at the centres.
What is covered?
The workshop includes group and individual activities, and participants will be expected to actively participate and engage in discussions.The aim of the training is to develop expertise across Tasmania in effective operating arrangements of evacuation centres, and to provide an opportunity for participants to network and share ideas.

- Types of evacuation
- Roles and responsibilities
- Evacuation centre set up
- Evacuation centre operations
- Registration in evacuation
- Human needs and expectations
- Communication and reporting
- Handover and demobilisation
Facilitator: Eleanor Carter, Red Cross Emergency Services
Eleanor is a member of the QLD Red Cross Emergency Services team and has been involved in the establishment, management and operations of numerous evacuation centres. Her extensive experience has been instrumental in the development of Red Cross evacuation centre training, guidance and best practice. Eleanor actively works to promote this best practice with both government and non government agencies that have an active or supporting role in the evacuation centre space.

What if the workshop is cancelled?
In the unlikely event that we do not receive sufficient registrations, we will cancel the workshop. You will be notified and your credit card will be refunded.
What is the refund policy?
For cancellations with more than 5 days notice, a 20% administration fee will apply. For cancellations with 5 or less days notice, a 50% fee will apply. 20% transfer fee applies to any request for transfer where the notice period is less than 5 working days. Customers who do not attend (give no notice) will be charged the whole fee. Contact us for a copy of our Red Cross Code of Practice.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes. You can transfer your ticket to another person but please advise firstname.lastname@example.org
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, you do not need the ticket for entry into the workshop.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Parking is available at the Arts and Function Centre - fees apply
