Have you recently started or are you returning to the critical care environment? Perhaps you are looking to increase your understanding of mechanical ventilation? This 2 day comprehensive course incorporating non-invasive ventilation & invasive ventilation is designed for you. While providing you with the knowledge necessary to understand ventilation, this course uses an interactive environment to build your skills in-order to safely care for the ventilated patient.

RN BN Cert. IV Workplace Training & Assessment
National Clinical Educator

Kate has over thirteen years’ experience in Emergency nursing and extensive experience in Education. Her goal is to deliver comprehensive clinical training that can be applied directly into the clinical workplace. Kate is passionate about extending high quality clinical education into rural and remote areas and has a particular interest in the care and management of respiratory illness.
     
Jenene Galbraith   Facilitator: Jenene Galbraith
RN BN MN (Critical Care)
Cert IV Workplace Training and Assessment

Jenene brings to the team broad experience as a Registered Nurse, clinical educator and clinical trials coordinator. With her expertise and exposure to clinical areas such as CCL, CCU and CTICU, Jenene is committed to developing exceptional educational support services for customers.

Overview: NIV Essentials & Invasive Ventilation
Day 1: Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation

  • Review the principles of Non-Invasive Ventilation therapy and understand the physiological response to the therapy
  • Understand how ABG interpretation is utilised to guide modal choice, device settings and weaning
  • Review evidence-based research and advances in NIV therapy
  • Participate in an experiential session with the option of trying both CPAP and BiPAP® therapy
  • Utilising clinical scenarios, demonstrate acquired clinical acumen to manipulate settings and troubleshoot appropriately


Day 2: Invasive Mechanical Ventilation

  • Review the principles of Invasive Mechanical Ventilation
  • Understand ventilator controls and functions
  • Review modalities on trend and what the evidence supports
  • Discuss troubleshooting tools and waveform assessment
  • Participate in experiential sessions with ventilators, complete with clinical scenarios to turn new knowledge into useable skills
