Boardshorts under the microscope: The rise of sports technology
Wednesday, 5 September 2012 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (AEST)
The rise of sports technology over the years has been immense, from the pool, to track and field and most prevalent domestically through the AFL, with what could be compared to an 'arms war'. But manufacturers of clothing and equipment are not immune from this. In fact, some of this innovation and advancement is driven by manufacturers seeking to out-do their competition.
Dr Paul Collins will give an overview of sports technology research and development currently in progress at Deakin University and how the likes of Quiksilver are involved with developing the next level of performance equipment, not only for the elite athlete, but also for the weekend warrior.
Dr Collins is the theme leader for sports technology at Deakin University and the project manager for the Deakin Quiksilver Research and Development partnership. He is keenly interested in the link between technology and human performance through materials, design and interaction. He holds a PhD in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor of Commerce.
