Description

How should Christians respond to the current asylum seeker and refugee debate?

You are invited to a gathering of local churches to learn more about the current asylum seeker and refugee situation from a panel of experts. We will explore the call of the Christian faith to love, compassion, justice and mercy and how this relates to Australia's treatment of asylum seekers. Together we will reflect on and consider our humanitarian and biblically-shaped response to asylum seekers & refugees in Australia.

This event takes place at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, 1 Darley Road, Manly NSW.

Doors open at 6.30 pm and the event will start at 6.45 pm sharp with a screening of 'Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea'. (http://deepblueseafilm.com/)

This will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A, moderated by Rev. Andrew Palmer, Director, Global Interaction and then light refreshments will be served. Panellists include:

- Rev. Scott Higgins, Director, A Just Cause (the biblical response). http://scottjhiggins.com/

- Greg Lake, Former Immigration Department Official (challenged by his faith). http://theimmigrationblog.com/tag/australia/

- Lucy Morgan, Information & Policy Coordinator, Refugee Council of Australia (busting the myths). http://www.refugeecouncil.org.au/

- Fiona Bachmann, NSW Branch Committee Member, Amnesty International ( the human rights perspective). https://www.amnesty.org.au/
