Location

Cooktown PCYC

3 May Street Cooktown, QLD 4895 Australia

Description

Find out how the ATO is protecting honest businesses.

In August and September, we will be visiting businesses in Cooktown (QLD). Our visits are part of our work to protect honest businesses from unfair competition. We want to ensure businesses do the right thing and are not disadvantaged by those engaging in black economy behaviour.

While most businesses do the right thing, some get an unfair advantage by not meeting all their tax and superannuation obligations. We will be talking to local businesses to understand how they operate and identify where help is required. If needed, we will also take further action to address people who are deliberately doing the wrong thing. All businesses should get a fair go.

Register now to attend a free information session run by ATO staff.

During the session, we will be discussing:

  • why we are coming to your area
  • what to expect during the visits
  • how the black economy affects all businesses and Australians
  • common mistakes businesses make and how to avoid them.

Take the opportunity to speak with ATO staff about issues that concern you.

If interested, you can also attend the following sessions on Wednesday 4 September at PCYC (the same venue above):

  • ‘Introduction to business records’ session at 5.00pm – 6.00pm
  • 'Single Touch Payroll Introduction' session at 6.15pm – 7.45pm (including question time).

Businesses and tax professionals are welcome.

More information is available at ato.gov.au/protectinghonestbusiness or email us at workingwithindustry@ato.gov.au

We value your feedback and views. After this session, you may be asked to participate in a short online survey.
